October Goal reached!

21 10 2009

Today I finally reached my goal for October and reached the mark of 5k profit.
I had a small downswing last days. It wasn’t as bad as it looked like, cuz of the 4man split-variance, but still little more than 1k losses in two days. Today I ran pretty nice and finally found back to my A-Game so I could get the best out of it and just reached a nice $5,140 profit for October (including rakeback).

Beside playing a lot of games I got in contact with other well known HU high stakes regulars. I teamed up with very solid players at 115 and 230 4mans to get almost two times the ROI I could earn with standard 2man HUs.

Recently I played against an unexperienced passive fish who just threw all of his chips away after has been called in this hand:
http://www.pokerhand.org/?4808644P

It’s one of those pretty standard hands you can almost be 100% sure you are up against A8 or a missed draw/air. JTh is another possible hand the villain could play this way. But beside these very few hands the betting line doesn’t make any sense. If you come to the conclusion there are only two or three hands possible the opponent could held it’s kind of very easy call, especially considering his preflop action (even for a very passive player it’s very unlikely he would just limp hands like A8 or JTh). Plus: if you make the right call you not just win the pot, you’ve almost won the whole match as well. Depending on your opponent you should never forget tilt implieds if you are faced with a decision like that.

On Monday I applied for the actual “PokerStars Online Team Pro” competition.
PokerStars sent mails with application-links to every Supernova so they can apply for becoming a member of “PokerStars Team Pro”. As they wrote at 2plus2 they are searching for 25 online players from different game types and buyin levels. The benefit of being a Team Pro-member are pretty nice including very nice 100k extra rakeback bonuses per year. There are only about 5,000 Supernova accounts at the moment, so I just tried it and wrote a very nice letter of motivation.
Thank you Melanie for your help and advices! Really hope they gonna approve your application! GL ;)

Beating the Stats!

15 10 2009

Maybe I’m just running pretty hot and maybe I’m more lucky than I’ve ever been before. But I certainly never felt so comfortable grinding the 115s as I’m doing recently. My play and especially my game management improved so much that I finally feel ready to make some nice profit regularly. Would be pretty nice to increase the October profit to 5k. I’m up 4k so far and got another week until I’m off for two weeks to enjoy the Cuban life :P

I just played an interesting hand in which I tried one of those nice value raises on the river. But this time it went totally wrong. Not because of the raise itself, but the reading of my oppenents’s intention.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?4786985P

He’s not one of those who just bet 200 in a large pot to make the opponent bluff the river over the top. He seriously was afraid I had him beat. After I raised the river he was thinking for pretty long time and obviously couldn’t see what hand I might have he could beat.
Normally in those spots I’m faced by very big value bets from standard players or by a very tiny bet to induce a bluff from thinking players. His bet was neither the one nor the other. He just bet it as he always has no idea how much to bet. Pretty funny, just a pity I lost such an easy game because of a misread about my opponent’s abilities. But, well, next time I’ll now better…

Pstars is rigged!

13 10 2009

I would luv to write that I crushed the games at Pstars. The truth is that I played pretty weak and ran cold yesterday. Better don’t see my actual winning rate.. :(
Beside my weak games at 115 I played another very solid HU tourney and finished top32 third time in a row. This time I really can say that it was not my fault I didn’t manage to come closer to the FinalTable. It was Pstars’ fault! At least one funny thing about the server-crash at Pstars. Almost 1/3 of all players at pstars lost the connection and couldn’t reconnect for 30-40 mins. We just made it to the next round of the daily HU tourney when I lost the connection. I could manage to reconnect, but wasn’t able to login. I saw how my oppenent took my blinds, but there was nothing I could do about it. After I recognized 25 players of the 32 players were disconnected as well I wrote the support to freeze the tourney as soon as possible. Two minutes after I “busted” they did freeze it for 20 mins or something to fix their server problem.

20 minutes later the tourney continued. Without me obv. But it was fun to see that they forgot to freeze blind-increasing as well. Blinds increased every 3 mins, so the players who reconnected and were still in had to play with Blinds 200-400, Ante 50, stack: 1,500 each. 72o allin-callements FTW! Well done, Pstars. Thanks for so much fun and for finally give me a situation I could say: Pstars is rigged!

There’s so much skill at the daily HU-tourney:
Key hand top64. wp sir.

Sweet Session – October Profit: 2,3k

12 10 2009

Last night I had a very nice session winning some 4man HUs I played on my own. Sunday nights are so fkn juicy! :D
Profit of the session was little more than 1k to turn the October profit (including rakeback) into $2,3440 so far.

Here is a quite interesting hand I played against a quite obvious, scared playing oppenent. At the turn I was pretty sure (about 85%) that he just hit the 5, so it’s a clear call regarding my odds and implied odds to hit one of my 14 outs (were only 13):
http://www.pokerhand.org/?4776490P

The flop action was pretty standard. With his two pair he has the better hand in most cases and I like his check-raise. I don’t like the amount of his bet though. He should have reraised to much more to have the option to shove the turn if any blank came. His turn bet is really really weak and shows how scared he was. A lot of unexperienced players would do the same, cuz they are scared of an 8 or a better 5 in the oppenents’ hand. But, he is committing all of his chips either. He didn’t want to fold on the river, so why not check-raising flop the flop to 650 and shoving the turn on a blank?
He played his hand so obvious that I could easily shove the river being sure I had him beat.

While playing some HUs I had another very nice mikogo-session with Anders and discussed a lot of spots in different matches. He saw me playing the daily HU tourney as well until I made a weak push at high blinds preflop and finished 19th (worth $73.50).

Actual 115s winning rate: 30/47

Winning rate at 115s

11 10 2009

The start of the challenge was pretty nice. I got 20 wins of 30 matches so far.
I’m going to update the actual winning rate in the widget every day. I’m pretty sure it will help me a lot to stay focused and to keep a better game management in mind.

Here’s one very interesting hand I played my last match at the FinalTable of the 4man HU:
http://www.pokerhand.org/?4775252P

It seems like a very, very loose gambling call, but I had the note “3bets AKo very high and shoves on any flop at low blinds” already before. I don’t think the call is wrong, I’m way ahead or way behind here and I was quite sure he wouldn’t do that move with any pocketpair. And that’s the reason why I call his big 3bet preflop. I don’t got the correct odds for calling on setvalue obviously, but I was preflop already pretty sure I would call his shove if no K, Q or Ace would show up on the flop.
Only problem with the call is: Blinds are very low and if I fold that hand I still got a very nice stack to beat this donk.
I only played him two times before. Maybe I should have wait for a better spot and just fold the 3s preflop. But did I really would think the same if he didn’t get lucky to catch his 6 outer..?!

Personal Challenge to crush the 115s

10 10 2009

Today I started something like a personal challenge to increase the quality of my games and to get a better feeling for the statistics. I’ll play 500 games at 115 buy in mostly 1tabling 2player HUs to get a reliable percentage of my actual edge vs standard fishes. I won’t stop playing 4man HUs during this challenge, but gonna take notes of each HU I’ll play. Matches vs regs I’m teaming up with are excluded in the stats, obviously.

I’ll take the challenge pretty seriously and hope that I can improve my game management beside the ability to play every opponent in a specific way, enormously.

Today I didn’t have much time to play. The stats are:
2 player: 7/10 -> 7 wins out of 10 matches
4 man single: 1/3 -> 3 wins out of 5 matches (finished 4th, 2nd and 1st)
4 man team: 1/2 -> 1 win ouf of 1 match (sat vs my partner in the other matches)

Actual winnning rate: 11/16 or 68,75%

A very long way to go, but I’m very excited about the outcome.
I’ll post new stats almost daily next weeks. Until – yes! – until my trip to Cuba :P

Edit: Finished the challenge with a nice 56,3% winning-rate :)

No profit in October yet

9 10 2009

After a very weak start in October I decided to just 1table the 115s for a decent amount of games. I still got a leak in my endgame and do a lot of loose plays when 3betting huge fishes I could easily outplay by being more patient. Learning and improving the endgame should be quite easy. I hope I’ll play more confident atfer 3betting pretty soon as well.
At the moment I’m just even for this month – already including rakeback. Let’s see how I’ll do 1tabling 115s until my trip to Cuba. Two weeks to go until I’ll start my great trip :D

Although I made a very nice profit teaming up the 4man HUs with other regs – especially with Siervos, I’m only even in October so far. But I hope I’ll crush the 115s very soon again :)

Yesterday night I finished 11th (worth $100.08) in the daily $22 HU tourney and was really pissed busting against a very weak fish with TT vs JJ pre allin at 25-50. Losing to donks I should owne all the game is most disgusting thing what can happen. Especially if there is such a beautiful prizemoney to play for.

Here’s one of the few hands I recently played and really loved to review again and again regarding value-betting ;)

Talking about juicy games?!

5 10 2009

Yesterday evening I had another very funny livesession with my favorite maniacs. A friend of mine does know the guys and invited me 2 weeks ago to join the session. I guess it’s the most funny and loosest poker play I’ve seen the last 1.5 years. Prelfop raises to 6-10x BB are pretty standard. Blinds are only 0.05/0.1€, so I obviously don’t play there for profite. I just enjoy crushing the game. A profit of 627 BBs like last night isn’t that bad though ;)

Here is the most funny hand I played last night:

Early position raiser to 0.70 €, one MP caller, me in the CO with 96o.
I’m about 400 BBs deep and insta call, cuz almost any two cards which could make a hand are worth it with such beautiful implied odds.
Button calls, SB folds and BB calls.

Site notes: BB is about 300 BBs deep and just lost a nice pot vs my lucky 72o 2pair catch (initially I just played the hand agressive to show one of my very few bluffs to get more payout in the future).

Flop comes: Q87 rainbow. The BB bets 2€ into the 3,5€ pot which could be any 2cards somehow connected with the flop. After the first maniac bets the 2€ the initial raiser calls, maybe with only A-high, maybe less… I call to see the very beautiful rainbow Ten on the turn.
The BB bets out 4€ again, initial raiser folds and I don’t hestitate to raise to 10€. BB almost insta calls to see another Ten on the river. BB checks and I just shove allin being 100% sure my oppenent doesn’t have me beat.
After the BB thought about 2 mins I finally got a call. By Q9o…

“Sorry. I really got lucky to catch that Ten on the turn.” It’s all about luck in poker. We all do know that ;)

September Review: +6.1k

2 10 2009

After I finished my exams in August there was a lot of time in September for a TON of games. I 3-4 tabled most of the time, started with 115s and mixed it up with 230s as well. After a very nice start at the beginning of the month I played more and more bingo-games and finally decided to take a step back to 115s.

Including Rakeback I made a very nice $6,1k profit in September and collected 35k VPPs to a total of 161k in 2009. The 200k milestone (worth $2k) doesn’t seem far away anymore which I’m hoping to clear in the beginning of December.

I got in contact with a lot of other regs this month and teamed up for the 4man HUs quite often. Even more important than the profit itself were the dicussions and learning sessions with other regs this month. I never had the chance to learn that much than I did in the past. Thx to those who know I’m talking about them ;)
Additionally to that I could improve my game management a lot!

For October there is no goal for a profit at all. After my huge swings at 230s I need to go back to the 115s and keep on learning some basics of the endgame. It’s time to play some really solid 115s 1-table sessions.
The only goal is IMPROVEMENT!
